On this episode of Kevin’s Old Videos, here’s a simple stair trick I did in 2017. I think this was a video that started establishing my style of real yet magical. It’s more clever than difficult to make - relying on the movement and angle of the camera as it passes over the stairs. I actually filmed this first at a public park in Portland, but discovered in the edit that the stairs were too shallow for it to work. A lesson in testing things at home before putting in too much work on location. This might be one of the few videos that has someone else (my wife) behind the moving camera! For the past handful of years I’ve leaned into a look where I’m alone making my videos. Also, this was a video that took about 5 minutes to fill and required zero production setup. That was key in those days where I was making videos at night, after my day job. Zero notes on this from me. Maybe get rid of my watch so the footage flop isn’t as obvious? But it was always one of those things eagle-eyed viewers could spot and comment on.
