The fabric used for denim jeans was originally called "serge de Nîmes" or "denim de Nîmes," now you know haha… In the 19th century, denim jeans became popular among gold miners in California due to their durability and practicality. The first pairs of Levi's jeans were made in 1873 and were worn primarily by laborers and farmers.
