We are thrilled to announce that artist Nifemi Marcus-Bello was awarded a Special Mention at the LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize 2025 for the piece ‘TM Bench with Bowl’. Architect Patricia Urquiola presented the prize at a ceremony held in Madrid. Created from reclaimed aluminium from the car industry, the sculptural work explores ideas of globalisation, trade, and the dynamics of power. The jury appreciated the simplicity of the raw material, combined with geometric forms which creates a quiet yet powerful statement on consumerism. The works by all 30 finalists are on view in our exhibition at the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum in Madrid running until 29 June. The LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize 2025 exhibition is now open at the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum in Madrid featuring the winning piece and all 30 works by this year’s finalists. The 2025 edition of the prize recognises the shortlisted artists as having made fundamentally important contributions to the development of contemporary craft and spans ceramics, jewellery, textiles, woodwork, glass, metalwork, furniture, papercraft and lacquer. The Prize functions as a multigenerational snapshot of the utmost excellence in craft today. The exhibition runs until 29 June. Congratulations to artist Kunimasa Aoki on being awarded the LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize 2025 for the piece, ‘Realm of Living Things 19’. The trophy was presented by film director Pedro Almodóvar at the ceremony in Madrid. The jury chose the work for its honest expression of the ancestral coil process, and how the material is expressed in its raw, unfinished form. The intricate details of the surface form ‘little universes’ which are created through the compression of the terracotta coils. The element of risk in the firing process is a testimony to the tenacity and commitment it takes to make a sculpture such as this. The works by all 30 finalists are on view at our exhibition at the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum in Madrid running until 29 June. We are thrilled to announce that artist Studio Sumakshi Singh was awarded a Special Mention at the LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize 2025 for the piece, ‘Monument’. Actor Meg Ryan presented the prize at a ceremony in Madrid. This life-size reimagining of a column from a 12th-century colonnade in Delhi has been created using copper zari, threaded onto water-soluble fabric which was then dissolved leaving only the thread behind. The jury noted the poetic contrast between the work’s strong presence and its delicate structure, which serve as an eloquent testament to the enduring memory and resilience of cultural histories in the face of the physical degradation of monuments and passage of time. The works by all 30 finalists are on view in our exhibition at the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum in Madrid running until 29 June.
