A look back at Kanye’s Unreleased TV Show “Alligator Boots” and how he met Kim for the first time (2007) In 2007, while in the middle of working on his third studio album “Graduation”, Kanye West had the idea of creating a puppet-based sketch comedy show, which would also be co-created alongside fellow Chicago native Rhymefest. The show would have of course had Kanye West as the main star featuring alongside him Ryhmefest’s alter-ego character Pork Troy. The original title for the show was called “Untitled Kanye West Puppet Show“, but would be later changed to a more fitting name for Kanye; “Alligator Boots“. He states that when he was growing up, if your uncle had a pair of alligator boots, it meant you made it. So that’s what the show was supposed to signify. A majority of the writers who were brought in to work on Alligator Boots had previously worked on a show with a similar concept called “Crank Yankers“. Kanye would also contact one of the co-creators of the show, Daniel Kellison to help bring his vision to the screen. He (Kanye) briefed him on what he wanted the show to be. A convoluted idea for sure, Daniel helped develop the idea a bit more into a sort of adult themed Hip-Hop muppet show. Both Kanye and Rhymefest were open to this interpretation. Soon after, Kanye and Daniel would reach out to Jon Kimmel to become their main writer as well as the network Comedy Central for the funding of the series. They would receive a $1 million budget from them to film the pilot. Now to make things a bit more interesting, Kanye wanted to bring in a love-interest into the series. The co-star would have been dressed in a “slave-Leia“ outfit from Star Wars: Return Of The Jedi. After watching her new tape with Ray J on set, Kanye really wanted Kim to play that role. So they reached to her, met her for the first time, and filmed the pilot. Unfortunately, we would never get to see how this would’ve played out due to Comedy Central backing out and pulling the plug on the series. It’s really a shame, this could’ve been a series with so much potential and cultural significance, but they let it fade away into obscurity.
