8:57am my two little tornadoes beg me to let them have a make up party on my head. 8:59am I agree to the torture. 9:04am they get into a huge fight over “the kind” of make up they’re going to give me so they decide to split my face down the middle and each one of them can do whatever they want to “their side” of daddy’s face 👀 10:17am I’m in the shower realizing this s#%t takes forever to wash off. 11am zoom meeting, realizing I still have nail polish on 💅🏾🙋🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️ But in the end when it’s time to tuck ‘em in to bed, and kiss ‘em goodnight - you remember quick that they’re only little once and you’d do anything to make ‘em laugh and smile. Thanks for the classic Roy 🎶, daddy needs a tequila or three 🥃

I’m so grateful to co-author my next project (a non-fiction book) with award winning investigative journalist, Nick Bilton. Nick and I have worked for months now, with many more months of work ahead of us - this has already been such an unbelievable, inspiring and eye opening experience. “The nonfiction book will chronicle the untold true story of a fierce and defiant Hawaiian crime syndicate known as The Company that battled outsider gangs and corporate invaders during the 1960s and 1970s. And it will shine a spotlight on its charismatic, powerful and strategic leader, Wilford “Nappy” Pulawa — the first and only Hawaiian mob boss in history.” My formative years were spent growing up in Honolulu, Hawai’i and this story is very personal - the more exhaustive research we do and people we speak to - the more I shake my head at how wildly and profoundly connected we all were were. And still are. Mahalo to our director, Marty Scorsese for working so closely with us creatively as we all explore and embrace this Hawai’i story with mana and respect. More to come. Back to work. Slightly intellectually intimidated, but keeping faith alive.
Our Hawaiian crime saga now has a home at 20th Century Fox & Disney. I was a little boy growing up in Honolulu when this real life story was taking place and these real men - ruthlessly did what they had to do for respect, money, power but more importantly - for the reclamation of our Polynesian culture. Working closely with Marty as his vision for our story begins to take focus, has been a gift to witness and absorb. I’m honored to work with this inspiring creative team, and even more blessed to call them my friends. More to come. Mana is real.
If you’re lucky enough to reach the highest of mountain tops - in anything you do - you begin to ask yourself, “what’s next?” I had a good, sobering “come to Jesus” talk with myself back in Jan of 2020 when we all got rocked by COVID and then my dad suddenly died, and I heard his spirit whisper, “the show must go on” I realized it was time to get back to work, and create new mountains, and bring everyone along - because despite being #1 on ANY call sheet, success is NEVER singular.
