Repost from @lhoptman • Every fall since I don’t know when The Drawing Center has held an exhibition of drawings that are for sale with proceeds benefiting the artists as well as The Drawing Center, which relies on these funds for its yearly programming. This year, we will present “Welcome to the Multi-scape” a show of around 100 landscapes seascapes city and mindscapes by an astonishing variety of artists from the last 200 years. The show will be on view and the silent auction will be open from September 24 to September 30 the day of our rollicking massage on Wooster Street (tickets at drawingcenter.org). This display will feature works on paper by some legendary artists, among them, Helen Rae (1938-2021). A deaf non-verbal artist, Rae made her work in a progressive art studio in Southern California, creating hundreds of works over 30 years. This beautiful landscape is drawn with Rae’s signature colored pencils, and unlike some of her better known drawings does not seem to be inspired by a magazine advertisement. It has been chosen by KAWS who is perhaps Rae’s biggest champion, and it is through his collection exhibited one year ago at the The Drawing Center that we all became familiar and then enamored of Rae’s achievements on paper. Thank you for the gift of Helen Rae, KAWS! For tickets to the finissage please go to drawingcenter.org. A full catalog of the works in “Welcome to the Multi-scape” will be available right after Labor Day.
