Video Feature • The design of Stanford Residence began with a clear objective: to open the interiors into a single, loft-like plan. Walls were removed, thresholds softened and sliding partitions introduced, allowing the space to shift in scale and privacy. Through these interventions, the residence transforms from a traditional layout into a home where architecture supports fluidity and reinvention. The result is a living environment that feels grounded yet responsive, enabling the resident to curate the space as needs and moods change. Designers at Home • It’s easy to understand what @tamsinjohnson means by “powerful” objects in her home; each space is designed around one or more striking pieces, with the show-stopping cast dominated by antique and vintage treasures.

Johnson was raised among old-world beauty – her parents were antique dealers – and her portfolio is characterised by an effortless juxtaposition of items from different eras and styles. Her own home is no different. Favourite finds of varied provenance are paired in unlikely marriages but with no jarring conflict, just an ineffable sense of aesthetic harmony.

Issue No. 19 Feature • Everything in The Corner Shop House project was removed except for the facade, and it was propped up while the new building was carefully sleeved into the shell.

In retaining the nine-metre parapet and brick envelope, @downienorth was able to work within the commercial zoning to build up to three levels. The team worked with the topography of the site to create a rear terrace garden and garage on the lower level, allowing a high level of amenity to be achieved within a small footprint.

Architects at Home • Video Feature • It has been less than a year since the completion of @howquariverlodge, and Rob Mills of @robmillsarchitects is still getting accustomed to the idea of living the quiet country life he always imagined.

“Howqua River Lodge has been a soul project for many years, made all the more meaningful by its deep roots in my family’s history. It holds immense personal significance, and it’s been a true honour to share this extraordinary landscape,” admitting that carving out time to retreat to the mountains is an act of intention.

Designers at Home @studio.doherty’s Gable House is a wonderful example of a family residence that reveals more of itself the longer you look at it. For Mardi Doherty, it's not about grand gestures but rather the beautiful layering of detail, history and personality.

The home is, unmistakably, designed with intention and inhabited with joy, which is a true reflection of the woman who helped shape it – creative, considered, generous and bold.

Architects at Home • Video Feature • At @howquariverlodge by @robmillsarchitects, each pavilion is set in sequence, one behind the other. This arrangement allows the front living pavilion to open to the landscape with windows on three sides, offering panoramic views in every direction.

Without a traditional front door, one drifts naturally into the central living space. It’s the kitchen, the dining area, the place where you read and live that becomes the true point of arrival, rather than a formal entryway.

Issue No. 19 Feature • Located in Sydney’s Newtown, House Gretchen emerges from behind a heritage facade, sitting flush within a row of turn-of-the-20th-century terraces. Designed by @lintelstudio for an artist couple and their son, the dark terrace was updated into a light-filled and inspiring home with a striking experimental layout.

From the outset, the project presented challenges. Ageing building materials and water damage meant the historic terrace had to be entirely rebuilt. Lintel Studio restored the facade and two front rooms to heritage standards, with subtle updates including underfloor air-conditioning and bespoke wall panelling. The team then completely reimagined House Gretchen’s existing rear extension.

Video Feature • The (Emerging) Designer Awards • In the heart of Subiaco, Western Australia, a once-enclosed townhouse is opened up through sensitive planning and tactile materiality. Interior designer @adynk reimagines the home with an emphasis on light, calm and connection.

Natural stone, warm tones and considered textures bring a grounded elegance to each space. This is design that speaks softly yet lingers long after.

Video Feature • When you approach The Glass House from the brick side, you enter along a grass-lined pathway. This grassy area essentially functions as a courtyard in the home.

Inside, a minimal kitchen sits to the left. Behind the cabinetry is the bedroom area, while the bathroom is contained within the cylindrical brick volume, which also incorporates the fireplace on one side.
