[Auction News] Not every jewel finds its match at the hammer. One of the most anticipated lots at Phillips Geneva @phillipsauction – a 53.14-ct Fancy Vivid Yellow diamond pendant – failed to sell, as reported by Forbes. This old mine cut, internally flawless diamond was expected to fetch up to CHF 3.1 million. But even with its exceptional colour and clarity, this isn’t always enough to seal the deal on auction day. The Mediterranean Blue diamond is one such superstar of the carbon world, which recently went under the hammer at Sotheby’s Geneva @sothebys Weighing 10.03 carats and graded Fancy Vivid Blue, this cushion-cut treasure is more than a sensational stone – it’s a rarity. Classified as a Type IIb diamond (less than 0.5% of all diamonds!) with VS2 clarity, its backstory begins with a 31.94-ct rough unearthed in South Africa. Sorry for spamming you with the Met Gala looks, but I just can’t take my eyes off all the splendid looks and I need to share more celebrities who wowed me with their jewellery style :) If you didn’t know - this year, guests were instructed to dress within the concept of ‘Tailored for You’, which is clearly quite open to interpretation. Leading the charge are the Met Gala co-chairs – Pharrell Williams, Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky and Lebron James – who work alongside Anna Wintour to ‘set the tone’ for the event. As always, I have tagged jewellers in the pictures and I would like to hear in comments whose look you appreciate most!
Not since 2003 has a Met Gala theme focused exclusively on menswear, so we had high hopes for this year’s attendees demonstrating the best of tailored suiting adorned with high jewels. Fortunately, they did not disappoint! A plethora of famous faces, including Pharrell Williams, Colman Domingo, and Lewis Hamilton, tapped into the concept behind the Spring 2025 Costume Institute exhibition – Superfine: Tailoring Black Style – to reexamine Black dandyism through a modern lens.
