수단 알자지라주 알위다 보건소에서 유니세프의 지원으로 홍역 및 풍진 예방접종을 기다리는 어린이들이 환하게 웃고 있습니다. 유니세프는 홍역과 풍진 위험지역인 엘고라와 남 알자지라 지역에서 생후 9개월~15세 어린이 50만 명에게 예방접종 캠페인을 실시했습니다. 유니세프 보건 담당자 아바스는 "홍역은 어린이의 청력, 시력 뿐 아니라 운동신경과 발달에도 영향을 미치기 때문에 예방접종이 중요합니다. 이번 캠페인을 통해 분쟁지역과 보건서비스가 열악한 외곽지역 어린이들까지 예방접종을 완료할 수 있어 다행입니다"라고 말합니다. 전 세계 어린이가 질병으로부터 안전하게 보호받을 수 있도록 유니세프와 함께해주세요! Children who are waiting to be vaccinated against Measles and Rubella at Alwihda health centre, Al Jazirah state in Sudan, are smiling. Delivered with UNICEF support, the campaign targeted over 500,000 children from 9 months to 15 years in the two high-risk localities of Um Elgora and South Al Jazirah. "The campaign is important because measles can affect a child’s hearing, vision, movement, and development. There are many children receiving the vaccine for the first time because they were in conflict zones and couldn’t reach safe areas, and in those areas, where vaccines were not available", said Aseel Abbas, a health officer and supervisor of the campaign. 유니세프 이노첸티 글로벌 연구소에서 발표한 보고서에 따르면, 코로나19 팬데믹 이후 세계 주요 선진국 어린이들의 학업성취도, 마음건강, 신체 건강이 전반적으로 악화된 것으로 나타났습니다. 학교가 3개월에서 최대 12개월 동안 폐쇄되면서 많은 어린이가 원격 수업에 의존했으며, 일부는 수업에 아예 참여하지 못했습니다. 이에 따라 평균적으로 어린이들은 학업적으로 7개월에서 1년가량 뒤처졌고, 취약계층 어린이일수록 그 격차는 더 컸습니다.   보고서는 전반적으로 고소득 국가들조차 어린이에게 안정된 유년기와 긍정적인 미래를 제공하는 데 어려움을 겪고 있다며, 팬데믹이 어린이의 삶에 미친 부정적 영향과 같이 기후변화 등 글로벌 위기가 어린이의 삶에 심각한 영향을 가져올 수 있다고 경고합니다.   어린이 삶의 질 회복을 위해 우리 모두의 노력이 필요합니다.   Children in many of the world’s wealthiest countries saw marked declines in their academic performance, mental wellbeing, and physical health in the period since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to analysis published today by UNICEF Innocenti – Global Office of Research and Foresight.  School shutdowns of between three and 12 months forced many children to learn remotely and led to learning losses. The extent to which children are behind where they should be academically is estimated to be between seven months and one year, on average, the report says. Setbacks were most severe for children from disadvantaged families.   The report also raises concerns around mental health, pointing out that children’s life satisfaction suffered during this time, declining substantially in 15 of 26 countries with available data.
