Following the devastating fire at Hung Fook Court in Tai Po, Hong Kong, the organizers of MAMA 2025 responded swiftly, changing the theme of the awards ceremony to “Support Hong Kong.” Through a series of understated yet solemn arrangements, they paid tribute to and mourned the victims. These included canceling the red carpet, reducing lighting effects, lowering volume, requiring all award presenters to wear black ribbons, and having performing artists change into black and white attire. The organizers also announced a donation of HK$20 million, with several Korean entertainment companies and artists responding with donations, demonstrating cross-regional care and support. On the second night of the ceremony, Hong Kong film star Chow Yun-fat, dressed in a black suit, made a grand entrance as the finale. Before presenting the “Artist of the Year” award, he led the audience in a minute’s silence for the fire victims and injured. This gesture united the hearts of the audience and artists present, highlighting the power of music and humanitarianism, and leaving a profound and heartwarming mark on this year’s MAMA through remembrance and solidarity.
