The Friendship Pavilion for the 2024 Chengdu International Horticultural Exposition stands as a finely tuned expression of regional culture and sustainable modern architecture. Nestled amid the gently sloped terrain of Chengdu’s new development zone, the pavilion integrates sweeping curvilinear forms that evoke local tea-house courtyards, lotus ponds and bamboo groves. Its low-profile roof gently merges with landscape, while glazed walls and open courtyards invite fluid interaction between interior and exterior. Building materials and systems are chosen with environmental sensitivity in mind: recycled steel, locally sourced stone and timber references, and rain-water harvesting all contribute to a reduced carbon footprint. The design radiates hospitality, inviting visitors into a space of tranquillity and communal connection that reflects Chengdu’s cultural ethos of gathering and shared ritual. _project: Chengdu International Friendship Pavilion _architecture: Sichuan Provincial Architectural Design and Research Institute CO., LTD _location: Chengdu, Sichuan _images : @archexist —— @architecture_hunter is a non-traditional media that inspires, informs, and entertains a worldwide audience of over 3 million design enthusiasts. 🔎 get published: architecturehunter.com/register 🎥 watch & read: architecturehunter.com 🏆 follow: @architecture_hunter_awards 🏷️ tag #architecture_hunter to be hunted
