In Kortrijk, Belgium, the historic monastic complex of the Groeninge Abbey is re-imagined as Abby Kortrijk, a layered civic architecture that is at once heritage and future. The intervention by BAROZZI VEIGA uncovers the original spatial poetry of the cloister and chapel, introduces a subterranean exhibition zone and a contemporary pavilion with recycled-brick façades, and cultivates a hybrid typology: neither museum-only nor purely preserved monument, but an open living room for art and public life. The architecture negotiates between past and present with subtlety—restoring the sixteenth-century volume, preserving terracotta floors and original windows, yet embedding new exhibition galleries, communal dining rituals and expansive public access, so that historical resonance and contemporary abstraction coexist in dialogue. _project: Abby Kortrijk _architecture: BAROZZI VEIGA @barozziveiga _images: Simone Marcolin @simoneemarcolin _location: Kortrijk, Belgium —— @architecture_hunter is a non-traditional media that inspires, informs, and entertains a worldwide audience of over 3 million design enthusiasts. 🔎 get published: architecturehunter.com/register 🎥 watch & read: architecturehunter.com 🏆 follow: @architecture_hunter_awards 🏷️ tag #architecture_hunter to be hunted
